Healthcare Assistants (HCAs)

In addition to nurses and PCPs we have HCAs working at NEMS during the OOH period. The HCAs undertake simple patient testing such as blood pressures, pulses, ECG recording, urine testing and peak flow readings. Full training can be given. The HCA's main role is to prepare each patient to be seen by the nurse or doctor. Although some of our current HCAs have completed an NVQ level training programme this is not always necessary to be employed at NEMS.
